James Hetfield and MetallicaJames Hetfield has been a member of Metallica since it was founded in 1981/82 by Lars Ulrich. Born on August 3rd, 1963 in Los Angeles, James was originally the rythm guitarist and vocalist of Metallica, but took over as Bass guitarist after the untimely death of Cliff Burton.James has been the main song writer in Metallica and has been responsible for many of the lyrics as well as many of the riffs that made Metallica famous.
